Week 2 -- It's all about the body, man...

Week 2 was far more "productive" on the new things front. I started out the weekend a tad grumpy, as the wine club I was supposed to host Thursday night was canceled because of low attendance. But snowshoeing on Saturday at Trillium Lake was a blast--with Rick, Tiffany, and some of Tiffany's friends from Metro. The snow was crunchy and noisy, but the weather was fine with a cloudless sky! The trees protected us from the wind that blasted the ski slopes and it was surprisingly calm. Ok, that wasn't a new thing, but thought I'd share.

Cranial sacral therapy yesterday--well, it sure was subtle! Jennifer the therapist started out at my feet and just lightly touched them then moved up to my back and did some gentle manipulation then moved up to my head and neck. The neck supports and movements were the most manipulative, but I didn't feel too much change. Afterward I asked if she could feel any response, and she said what she sensed the most while she pulled on my earlobes was the horizontal membrane in my brain shifting. Weird! After the one hour treatment I felt incredibly relaxed, as if I had had a massage. Since this treatment can help with insomnia, I was really hoping for good sleep last night. Maybe it's mind over matter, but at 9:15 last night I hit a brick wall and HAD to go to bed. I almost didn't brush my teeth or wash my face because I was that tired. I woke up at 2 AM and had to pee but then fell back asleep quickly (which is always the hard part for me) and then didn't wake up until after 6 AM. I was so happy.

Another first yesterday was doing "yin yoga" at Yoga in the Pearl. It's a pretty shi-shi place, but my friend, Lisa (in the photo above, on the far right, when we went camping at Waldo Lake), really likes the teachers there. This form of yoga is more relaxation based, and we did a lot of low impact poses and held them for five minutes or so and focused on breathing. I am sore today! I realized I have lost a lot of flexibility, and I need to keep up with this. I enjoyed the class, but I wish they wouldn't burn incense--it totally gave me a headache.

Well, all I can say is I had a wonderful week with friends (what would I do without them?), and I so look forward to an historic inauguration tomorrow. Heidi, you should have rented out your basement; you could have charged a premium, I swear!

What's up this week? Navigation class at REI and la piece de la resistance--BELIZE on Friday!!!
